Welcome to the resource pages for each
grade of Sunday school. If you are busy with the demands of life and all it
has to offer, here is a place to help you find resources and ideas for your
classroom. Additionally, there are specific resource pages for each grade
level on the pull down menu of this page.
2014-2015 Curriculum – “Shine!”
This fall, we will be beta testing a new
curriculum called, “Shine” with the rotation format. This discovery-based
curriculum is full of wondering and cooperative learning. Biblically, it is
rooted in sharing the joy of God’s love, light, and peace. Educationally, it
is rooted in the philosophies and theories of Montessori, Reggio Emilia (ex.
Preschool of the Arts), Godly Play, and Howard Gardner’s Multiple
Intelligences. It encourages hospitality, compassion, imagination,
peacemaking and mindfulness.
I am very excited about introducing the MCC to
this curriculum, because the les-sons involve so much experiential learning
through art, drama, movement, music, discussion, journaling, silence, and
nature activities. The curriculum includes storytelling and age-appropriate
“wondering” questions that help make Bible stories relevant to life now. In
my experience as a teacher, the grounding educational philosophies are
wonderful for teaching information that really “sticks” with deeper meaning.
It strives to tap into each child’s strengths and guarantees that no child
will have to sit still and listen for an hour before worship!
I am also excited to tap into the gifts and
talents of the entire MCC! Please prayer-fully consider what role you will
play in the education of our children and youth.
Come to the teachers’ meeting after worship on
September 7 to learn more!
