Memorial Garden
Purpose of the Memorial Garden
Since early times, Christians have used their churches and church yards as
places of internment. Madison Christian Community offers this Memorial
Garden as a place of peace and beauty to inter ashes of loved ones following
cremation. This Memorial Garden symbolizes the cycle of faith from life to
death to life. This Garden is a place to remember and worship, meditate and
pray, celebrate and grieve. Located on a beautiful natural hilltop near the
church, this memorial garden lies in the shade of tall trees and overlooks
restored prairies, community garden plots, and a Santa Rosa Labyrinth. The
garden is open at all hours as a place that ministers and provides comfort
to those who stand in the memory of all saints.
Planning
Planning for burial arrangements of a loved one or ourselves in not an easy
task. The Memorial Garden ministry encourages us to talk about these plans
with our family and our church. There are several options available for
cremains burial in The Memorial Garden. All interment options include the
burial and burial stone. Some options include a choice of how cremains will
be buried, contained or uncontained. A memorial stone, with no cremains, is
also available.
Remembrance
The name of each individual and the dates of his or her life will be
inscribed on the burial stone or memorial stone. A Book of Remembrance,
located in the Shalom Room, will hold a one page description chronicling and
celebrating the life of each individual interred in The Memorial Garden,
including those remembered with memorial stones.
A record of interment will be kept by Madison Christian Community.
Perpetual Care
The Memorial Garden is overseen by an elected Board of Trustees. A trust
account has been established to assure perpetual care of the Memorial
Garden. These funds are separate and distinct from church funds. Policies
regarding the use of the Memorial Garden have been established by the
Trustees and approved by the Leadership Team. In general, interment in the
Memorial Garden is available to past or present members, their families and
to others with a significant connection to the MCC.
Questions of eligibility are referred to the Memorial Garden Trustees. A
complete set of documents is available from the church office upon request.
