Welcome!
We invite you to join us as we celebrate another summer of gardening,
cooking, learning, and playing in the garden at Madison Christian Community
(MCC). Each summer children from Lussier Community Center join with staff
and volunteers from MCC for eight weeks of "Garden Camp." Volunteers and
staff from MCC tend and nurture the garden space throughout the year to
provide produce for the Lussier Community Center Food Pantry.

Weekly Activities
We gather on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for eight weeks during the
summer. Each week a new set of lessons and activities are offered that teach
about the interconnectedness of the garden to all of life, respect for
living things and each other, and healthy eating. Children rotate between
outside garden work and inside cooking activities with special presentations
from those skilled in gardening, botany, composting, beekeeping, chicken
care, and weather to name but a few.
Recipes from the Garden
Each year the children learn how to make healthy snacks using produce from
the garden. In our kitchen, everyone is a chef! At the closing of camp each
day we share this wonderful healthy creation made by the children.

Kids in the Garden 2017
The kids from Lussier Community Education Center enjoyed wonderful
opportunities for exploration and fun in your MCC garden! In addition to
learning about compost, harvesting and weighing produce and eating berries
by the handfuls, they encountered many visitors bearing gifts. Popsicle
production with Max from Chrysalis Pops was fun and the cool treats a couple
of days later were so satisfying. Experts shared their experiences with all
stages of the Monarch lifecycle. A local volunteer brought painting supplies
and enthusiasm to encourage us to capture the beauty of prairie wildflowers
with watercolors. There were scarecrows to create with Lindy, recipes to
prepare and consume and Molly’s goats to meet. It was a fabulous summer.
Thanks to all of the garden volunteers who make this program possible. It is
a treat for me to see them twice a week during the summer.
Until next summer…..

MCC Volunteers
Volunteers are at the heart of the Madison Christian Community garden
ministry.
All of our volunteers submit a background check, participate in our Parish
Child Protection program, and are committed to providing a safe and friendly
environment for all of the children who come to the garden. We have an
annual meeting with staff from the Lussier Community Center to ensure
compliance with their licensing policy and to further build our relationship
with this extended part of our community.
If you are interested in offering your time with our garden ministry
program, please contact Madison Christian Community.
